Honda Officially Begins Production of First American Hydrogen Cell Vehicle

Production on the all-new 2025 Honda CR-V e: FCEV has officially begun. What is known so far about this revolutionary zero-emissions vehicle currently in the works? We bring you the latest on this hand-manufactured vehicle straight from the Ohio plant.

2025 Honda CR-V e: FCEV Specs

One of the first strides in Honda’s initiative to become carbon neutral by 2040, The CRV e:FCEV packs a next-generation fuel cell developed in a joint venture with General Motors that’s set to revolutionize the Electric Vehicle market. The hydrogen cell CR-V e stands out as the only fuel-cell electric vehicle manufactured in the United States equipped with both a 4.3kg hydrogen gas tank to power the American-made fuel cell system and plug-in EV charging capability. Together, both batteries give this compact crossover 270 miles of emissions-free driving. The greatest advantage compared to traditional electric vehicles is that the hydrogen tank only takes three minutes to fill up – similar to gas-fueled cars. Many an EV user gripes about how long it takes to fully charge their car, and hydrogen cells provide the solution.

Production and Pricing

Honda expects to produce around 300 e:FCEVs per year, starting at $60,000 – a price expected for new technology. The downside is that the new vehicle will only debut in California, with 12 Honda dealerships leasing the e:FCEV until better refueling options are available nationwide. Following this trend, it’s likely expected that as infrastructure grows, so will the availability of the CRV e:FCEV, but the timeline to determine exactly when the models will be available outside of California is abstract at best.
